Torrey Pines Gliderport

Overview:

The Torrey Pines Gliderport is located in the Torrey Pines State Reserve. Southern California’s premier location for paragliding, hang gliding, and sailplanes. The Gliderport provides a world-class flying site, flight lessons, certifications, tandem flights, equipment sales, and repair services. 

Adventure:

The Torrey Pines Gliderport is an excellent adventure for any van or RV nomad looking to fly or just watch those who do. The gliderport is located next to Torrey Pines Golf Course and sits on a bluff overlooking the oceans.

You will see many vans and RV parked along the bluff, enjoying the day. It is a good place to meet the fellow van and RV nomads. 

The gliderport offers lessons, has a restroom, cafe, and store. THey also have a large viewing area with table and chairs so you can watch all the paragliding and hang gliding action. There is also a Remte Control airplane area too. 

Hiking

There are a few trails that lead from the gliderport to the beach that you can try.  Located at the beginning of the parking lot there is a trail that leads you to Blacks Beach. There is also a trail further down that goes down Sand Trap Canyon to Blacks beach. Just remember that Black’s Beach is a clothing optional beach.  

Glider Lessons

The gliderport does offer lessons, so this is a great opportunity to try out paragliding or hang gliding and take in the amazing views. The cost associated with an introductory flight are:

  • Paraglider Flight: $175
  • Hang Glider Flight: $225

Cafe

The Cliffhanger Café is located at the gliderport and is a full-service deli-cafe that is open daily, offering lunch and snacks from 9 AM to about 4 PM. They say to try their highly-acclaimed sandwiches, fresh salads, and soups. 

Parking

There is ample parking at the gliderport which is free of charge. You can park at the gliderport or down the ways where a bunch of campers and vans are parked on the bluff.
