Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta

Overview

The Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta is a must-visit for any van or RV lifer. The sight of seeing hundreds of balloons floating in the air is worth the price of admission. The festival lasts for a week and every day, but most balloons take off early morning. So be prepared to wake up early if you want to watch this spectacular event.

Adventure

The Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta is a great adventure for any van or RV nomad.  The fiesta takes place at the beginning of October.

The Balloon Fiesta creates an enchanted world of special-shaped balloon rodeos, twilight balloon glows, and vibrant balloon-filled skies. Brisk autumn mornings in the Rio Grande Valley create an otherworldly backdrop for the breathtaking majesty of our most popular event, Mass Ascension of all the balloons.

Dates: First two weeks in October

Accommodations

There are a lot of accommodation options available in the area around Albuquerque. You have to make sure you book at least six months in advance to find a place.

There are several RV parks and campgrounds located around the area. A few of these places are:

  • Balloon View RV Park
  • Coronado RV Park
  • Albuquerque North-Bernalillo KOA
  • Ojito Wilderness

Boondocking

If a traditional motel, hotel, resort, or RV park is not for you, there are plenty of boondocking options within 45min of the event. I usually stay at BLM land outside Santa Fe.

It’s a privilege to have Balloon Festival for our enjoyment, so please practice Leave No Trace principles.
