Warner Springs Gliderport

Overview:

Warner Springs Airport is one of the premier glider ports in Southern California and is located a mile north of Warner Springs. If you have ever dreamed about soaring among the birds and clouds without an engine, then flying in a glider is for you.  Located at Warner Springs Airport is Sky Sailing. They offer glider rides, tours, and instructions every day of the week.

Adventure:

Warner Springs Gliderport is located in San Diego County’s most beautiful areas. Situated in a mountain plain at over 3000, the Gliderport offers the perfect escape for any van and RV lifer looking for some adventure while hanging out in the mountains.

The gliderport is home to Southern California’s best Sailplane destinations and Sky Sailing.  Sky Sailing offers glider rides from one to two passengers, glider instructions, and a place for the Glider community to meet and practice. These glider rides provide views of the Mount Palomar Observatory, Warner Springs Ranch, Lake Henshaw, and the desert flowers of Borrego Springs.

One of Warner Springs’ greatest attributes is its proximity to the Anza Borrego State Park. The state park offers many places to explore, lots of campgrounds, and a beautiful flower bloom in the Spring. The park is only a 30-minute drive south on State Route 2.  The airport is also a quick drive from Julian, a small beautiful mountain town known for its famous apple pies. No trip to this area is complete without a stopover at the Julian Pie Company.

Camping:

What’s great about this location is the wide variety of camping and boondocking options. All these options are within a 45-min drive from the gliderport. A few of my favorite camping options in this area are:
