Goose Bay Dispersed Camping Site in Townsend, Montana, on the banks of the magnificent Missouri River, provides a one-of-a-kind opportunity to experience the wonders of nature and the excitement of the surrounding area.  There is a plethora of opportunities for outdoor enthusiasts in and around Townsend. The town’s proximity to the Missouri River, provides excellent conditions for fishing, kayaking, and canoeing. Put your line in the river and see if you can reel in a trout, walleye, or catfish. Enjoy the serene atmosphere and beautiful scenery as you paddle along the gentle currents.

Townsend

Townsend is a picturesque community with beautiful scenery and a wide variety of tourist attractions. Visit the town’s restored historic district to take in the architecture and learn about the region’s long and interesting past. To learn more about the history and culture of the Broadwater County area, visit the museum.

Canyon Ferry Reservoir

The neighboring Canyon Ferry Reservoir is a great place to get your heart racing. You can go boating, water skiing, or jet skiing on this vast expanse of water. Experience the rush of speeding across the reservoir’s surface, or take it easy and cruise while taking in the breathtaking scenery. Perch, pike, and rainbow trout are just some of the fish that fishing aficionados will have plenty of chances to reel in.

Hiking

There are several routes for hikers in the area to get out and enjoy the outdoors. The Elkhorn Mountains, not far distant, are inviting with their raw splendor. Trails through forests, meadows, and mountains are just waiting to be explored on foot or by bike. Deer, elk, and many types of birds can be spotted if you keep your eyes peeled.

Boondocking

Goose Bay Dispersed Camping Site is a great place to relax in your RV or van as the day winds down on the Missouri River. Enjoy the peaceful sounds of nature as you watch the sun fall over the sea and leave a golden glow over the landscape. Spend time together telling tales and gazing up at the stars over a campfire.

Directions:

To reach Goose Bay Marina & Campground from Townsend, follow these directions:

1. Start by heading west on Highway 12/W Broadway Street, continuing to follow Highway 12 for approximately 8 miles.

2. After 8 miles, turn left onto Route 284 N. You will see signs for “Toston Dam” and “Goose Bay Marina” at this junction.

3. Follow Route 284 N for about 7 miles until you reach a T-junction. Turn right to stay on Route 284 N.

4. Continue on Route 284 N for approximately 6.5 miles until you reach another T-junction. Turn left to stay on Route 284 N.

5. Stay on Route 284 N for about 4 miles until you reach the entrance of Goose Bay Marina & Campground on your right.

6. Turn right into the entrance and follow the road to reach the marina and camping area.
