Oceano Dunes SVRA

Overview:

Oceano Dunes Natural Preserve is located 3 miles south of Pismo Beach and is one of the most expansive coastal dunes left in California. The preserve offers the opportunity to camp directly on the beach, go horseback riding and traverse the dunes in a doom buggy.  You have the ability to drive your van and camp right on the beach which is a real treat in California.

Adventure

The Oceana Dunes Natural Preserve offers an amazing adventure for the van and RV nomad. It offers 3,500 acres of sand to play around in. This is the only State Park where you can drive right on the beach and camp. There are plenty of activities, including off-roading, swimming, surfing, surf fishing, camping, and hiking.

You also can take an ATV, motorcycle to dune buggy and fly up and down the massive mounds of sand. Several businesses rent ATV vehicles.

Just be sure to pay attention to your surroundings as you fly up and down the maze-like array of dunes—it’s easy to lose your orientation. Make sure you use caution when driving in the sand and tide conditions. Many people have been stranded due to tidal conditions.

Camping

Camping is $10 a night and is allowed south of Post 2.  There are vault toilets, and water-delivery and holding-tank pump-out services are available.

Campsite reservation information can be obtained by calling 1-800-444-7275. Campsites are available by reservation year-round and can be made from 10 days to six months in advance.
