The Anza-Borrego Desert State Park is home to the free boondocking campground Blair Valley Campground. It’s a wonderful spot to discover solitude in the desert and get away from it all. The only bathroom is a pit toilet at the entryway. A number of hiking paths can be found nearby.

Boondocking

Blair Valley Campground is more than just a campsite; it’s an escape from the stresses of daily life and a chance to reawaken your sense of adventure. It’s a haven where the desert’s hushed voices reverberate through the canyons, beckoning you to take in the peace and quiet of nomadic existence.

Pictograph Trail

The Pictograph Trail is a 1.8-mile out-and-back that leads to a boulder that served as an elephant-sized canvas for Kumeyaay Indian artists more than 2,000 years ago.

Hike 0.55 miles east from the trailhead, up a short valley in the ridgeline, ascending 190 feet. The panorama of Little Blair Valley and Granite Mountain to the west opens behind you.

Directions:

Borrego Springs’ Christmas Circle is 5 miles southwest on Borrego Springs Road. Turn right on Route S3 (Yaqui Pass Road), then drive 7 miles south over the hill to Tamarisk Grove. Turn right on Route 78 and keep going west for seven miles until you reach Route S2. Turn left and drive southeast for six miles to reach Blair Valley. When you get off the road, turn left and go east through Blair Valley Campground.
